Advantages of a portable EV charger?
Portable electric car chargers are a relatively new arrival on the EV scene and they could make all the difference. For many new adopters of electric motoring, range anxiety is often found lurking at the back of the driver’s mind. A portable charger will suit the majority of vehicles that utilise Type 1 or Type 2 charging cables. It’s a great idea, so what’s to stop a driver carrying one in the boot?

Well, some models can be very expensive and any will add weight to a car; never a good thing. People who drive very long distances as part of their work may find it useful to carry one as a stop-gap, but perhaps the idea is a bit over the top for most domestic motoring. That way, in extremis, a driver knows that his provider can come out to deliver a power boost at the roadside much as they would with a jerry can for a petrol or diesel car, to get the stranded motorist on their way again. It seems likely that as electric car use grows so garages and dealerships will routinely add portable electric chargers to their service vehicles. Similarly hire car providers could have them available for customers in an emergency and business users could make them a vital part of on-board fleet equipment to ensure their vehicles can get to a regular recharging point or back to base.
